Forged Garden Fork, Ash D-Handle
Four square forged carbon steel tines, 28 inch ash shaft with riveted D-handle, 4.4 pounds overall.
Description
A digging fork with a head forged from a single billet of carbon steel, four square-section tines 11 inches long, 7.5 inches across the head. The shaft is kiln-dried European ash, 28 inches to the base of the D-handle, giving an overall length of 44 inches. The head is socketed and riveted through the shaft, not glued. Total weight 4.4 pounds.
Use it for lifting root crops, breaking compacted soil and turning compost. Scrape the tines clean after use, rub the steel with a little oil before winter and give the ash a coat of boiled linseed oil once a year. The head will darken with use; that is normal and does not weaken it.
