Description
A border spade for digging in planted beds where a full-size spade is too wide. The blade is forged carbon steel, 7 inches wide and 11 inches deep, with a rolled tread along the top edge so the foot does not slip, and a sharpened leading edge. The 28 inch ash shaft is socketed and riveted; overall length 44 inches, weight 4.8 pounds.
The blade will polish bright with use and should be scraped and oiled before winter. Sharpen the edge once a season with a flat file, working from the back. Treat the ash with linseed oil yearly and never leave the handle standing in wet soil.
