Western red cedar box, 36 x 9 x 8 inches, stainless screws, drainage slots, left unfinished to weather silver.
Description
A window box in three-quarter-inch western red cedar, 36 inches long, 9 inches wide and 8 inches tall outside. Corners are rabbeted and fastened with stainless steel screws; the base has six quarter-inch drainage slots and sits on two cedar runners so water clears. Weight 11 pounds empty. Two galvanized steel brackets and screws for a wooden sill are included.
Cedar resists rot without any treatment and turns a pale silver grey within a year outdoors. If you want to keep the red colour, oil it once a year with a penetrating exterior oil. Line with landscape fabric to keep soil from washing through the slots.
