Cast Stone Bowl Planter, 16 inch

A shallow bowl cast from crushed limestone and white cement, then hand-finished so the surface shows fine aggregate rather than a smooth skin. It measures 16 inches across the rim, 6 inches deep inside and weighs 24 pounds, with a single three-quarter-inch drainage hole in the centre. The colour is a pale warm grey that weathers toward buff.

The shape suits alpines, sempervivums, thyme and small spring bulbs. Cast stone is frost-proof when drainage is open, so raise the bowl on three small feet or pebbles over winter. Moss and lichen will take hold within a couple of seasons if you let them.
